“FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE CITY COUNCIL UNANIMOUSLY ADOPTS THE RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF IGWC-UE
On Wednesday, April 20, the Bloomington City Council passed a unanimous resolution in support of the Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition – United Electrical Workers (IGWC-UE) and the ongoing strike. Read the full text here.
City Council called on the administration of Indiana University to recognize IGWC-EU and will send a copy of the adopted resolution to President Pamela Whitten, Provost Rahul Shrivastav, Vice Provost Faculty Affairs and Academics Eliza Pavalko and to the Board of Trustees.
As stated in the resolution, “Indiana University graduate students are vital members of the Bloomington community…and fair compensation for graduates is in the interest of the economic and social well-being of the city.”
The resolution goes on to support the right of all workers to organize their collective power and have a seat at the table in decisions that affect them.
IU graduate workers unionize to ensure that undergraduate tuition and alumni donations return to the classroom, to maintain the world-class education that IU is known for.
