Paul Gallen vs Darcy Lussick Boxing Fight News Press Conference

Paul Gallen’s fight plans in December were saved thanks to a last-minute decision by a former NRL rival to step into the ring.

Former NRL player Darcy Lussick was unveiled as Paul Gallen’s next opponent at a press conference on Monday.

Former Cronulla captain’s highly anticipated fight with NRL star Josh Aloiai was scrapped last week when the Sea Eagles forward contracted Covid-19.

It was supposed to be the main fight in the two-night boxing double header at Newcastle on December 9-10 – but Gallen’s plans have now been rebuilt from the ground up.

It was announced on Monday that Gallen will step into the ring with Lussick at the Star Event Center in Sydney on December 22.

The details of the undercard have yet to be confirmed.

Gallen’s previous fight feast scheduled for earlier in December included reality TV star Arabella del Busso’s first professional fight.

Lussick made headlines during his professional boxing debut two years ago when he knocked out former Broncos star Justin Hodges.

He hasn’t fought professionally since then. Gallen has not fought since suffering a loss in his brutal 10-round battle against Australian heavyweight champion Justis Huni in June.

It was also announced on Monday that the main event bout had been reduced to three, two-minute rounds.

Gallen previously attacked Aloiai for refusing to fight in three-minute rounds, but settled for a mini-fight against Lussick that will only last six minutes.

“It was very frustrating. I have to get back to work now, ”he said.

“The last few weeks I haven’t done anything, but today I have already reconnected.

“I’m a little [rattled] to be honest, it was a bit of a *** fighting it all off with each other’s preparation and now he’s pulled out. I just have to keep going, everything is fine.
