Press release 169-Homicide Investigation 4400 block of Ishkooda-Wenonah Road Southwest

Homicide investigation

The Birmingham Police Department reports that detectives are investigating a homicide. The incident happened on Saturday August 20, 2022.

The victim has been identified as Jamari Smith, (22) b/m, of Birmingham, Alabama.

At approximately 12:39 p.m., West Ward officers responded to multiple calls of shots fired at 4421 Ishkooda-Wenonah Road Southwest. Upon arrival, officers found Jamari Smith lying in the front yard with multiple gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, but the victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the victim was speaking with an unknown man outside before being shot. The suspect(s) fled and are currently at large.

Detectives have not established a motive in this homicide. Updates will be provided as this case develops.
