Press release: Cleveland re-signs Bryan Shaw

GOODYEAR, AZ – The Cleveland Guardians today announced the signing of a free agent RHP BRYAN SHAW to a Major League contract for the 2022 season. To make room on the roster of 40 players, the club placed HRP CODY MORRIS on the 60-day disabled list.

Shaw, 34, is entering his seventh season with the Guardians organization, following a 2021 campaign at Cleveland in which he appeared in a Major League-leading 81 games. His career-high 81 appearances were the most in club history in a single season, surpassing his previous club record of 80 GPs in 2014. The Cal State Long Beach product boasts the three best seasons in relief appearance in club history and led the AL in pitched games four times in his career (all with CLE). The franchise leader in career relief appearances (459 games), Shaw is currently fifth among MLB active players on standby with 174.

Drafted in the 2nd round (#73 overall) of the 2008 MLB Entry Draft by the Arizona Diamondbacks, the right-hander was originally acquired by Cleveland acquired Shaw via a 3-team trade in December 2012 from the Arizona Diamondbacks ‘Arizona. He was with the organization from 2013 to 2017 before spending two seasons with Colorado (2018-19) and one year with Seattle (2020). Cleveland signed him as a free agent in consecutive offseasons (2021 and 2022).
