PRESS RELEASE: Statement from Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar on investigation into Dallas-area club that may be responsible for sex-related commercial charges

TEXAS, August 5 – August 5, 2022

(AUSTIN) — Like many Texas parents, I have been troubled by recent images of children participating in a Dallas-area drag show, including an image of a child placing money in a artist.

I know this is a concern for many Texans, and the images circulating are certainly inconsistent with our Texas values. Although my office does not typically comment on ongoing investigations, recent public debate surrounding this specific entity demands a response.

My office had already begun the process of investigating this specific occurrence, as well as working to determine if the establishment is liable for the Sex Business Tax (SOBF) under Chapter 102 of the Business Code. This process follows an established procedure used when an entity may be subject to the SOBF.

As a father, I take this matter particularly seriously and am committed to ensuring that my agency does everything in its power to ensure that this and other establishments are fully compliant with Texas law. .
