FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The General Assembly of the Graduate and Professional Student Government (GPSG) met on Wednesday, April 27 at 6 p.m. for an emergency meeting in response to communications from the provost. Sam Smucker and Cole Nelson presented a resolution of no confidence in the leadership of Provost Rahul Shrivastav. The resolution passed 55 For, 2 Against, 4 Abstentions.

The past resolution states the following conclusions:

  1. The GPSG casts a vote of no confidence in the leadership of Provost Rahul Shrivastav.
  • The GPSG is removing all of its GPSG representatives from all Indiana University shared governance committees until the IU administration engages in meaningful dialogue with the Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition.
  • We encourage graduate students whom the administration has appointed without consultation with the GPSG – the elected representative body of graduate students on campus – to withdraw from participation in all shared governance committees until the administration of IU engages in meaningful dialogue with the Indiana Graduate Workers Coalition.

After the meeting, GPSG President Valentina Luketa communicated the results of the vote in a letter to voters.

The GPSG is the official university-sponsored student government for all graduate and professional students in all schools and departments at Indiana University Bloomington. GPSG serves more than 10,000 graduate and professional students at IU-Bloomington by providing advocacy, academic support, community building, and access to resources.
