Rangers announce 2022 Opening Day roster

Toronto – The Texas Rangers today announced several deals to establish the club’s 28-man roster for Opening Day ahead of Thursday’s deadline at 11:00 a.m. CT:

The Rangers’ season opener is Friday at 6:37 p.m. CT against the Blue Jays at Rogers Center in Toronto. The earliest date Richards could be activated from the disabled list is April 14. Rangers have seven days to trade, release or outright Apostel in the minor leagues.

Espinal was assigned to the Rangers League Complex in Arizona. The 19-year-old has a career-high .303/.376/.397/.773 over two professional seasons in the Diamondbacks system since signing with the club on July 2, 2018. The left-handed hitter and pitcher saw his first action in the United States in 2021, batting .259 with 2 home runs and 23 RBIs in 62 games for the Arizona Complex League Diamondbacks (Rookie) and Visalia (A).

Hernandez played 44 games for Rangers last season on his Major League debut. He was originally signed by Texas as an undrafted free agent on July 2, 2014.

With today’s trades, Rangers are on the 40-player limit on the club’s Major League roster, with two players (Jonathan Hernández and José Leclerc) on the 60-day injured list.
