WATCH LIVE: Mark McGowan press conference today with COVID-19 update after new case emerged in bars and nightclubs in Perth

Washington State Premier Mark McGowan will respond to the state’s concern over COVID-19 after an infected man visited at least one nightclub in Perth over the weekend.

The James Street Geisha Bar in Northbridge confirmed it was listed as an exhibit site between 12 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Sunday.

Mark McGowan will provide a COVID-19 update at 2:15 p.m. (AWST) on Thursday. You can watch the press conference live in the video player ABOVE as soon as it becomes available.

According to West Australian, patrons of two other nightclubs, Connections Nightclub on James Street and Perth Mess Hall on Francis Street, have received similar messages.

There are concerns that the COVID-positive nightclub participant may have been in the community for up to seven days while contagious.

WA Health and WA Police have not publicly confirmed the locations as exhibition sites and have been contacted for comment.

Is Perth going on lockdown?

McGowan said on Wednesday he hoped no restrictions should be introduced before Christmas.

He added that he would not lock down Perth if cases of COVID were detected until February 5, when the Washington state border is expected to reopen.

“In terms of a lockdown for Perth or Peel or the South West, no, it’s not part of our planning, but if we have an outbreak before February 5th, we will obviously put in place some social public health measures,” did he declare. .

“So it can be about wearing a mask, restrictions on places or measures around the non-vaxxed according to which they can not go to certain places such as restaurants, cafes, bars, pubs.

“That sort of thing is on the table.”

He said WA’s very high immunization levels meant the state could remove large-scale blockages such as those that plagued the entire Perth and Peel region earlier this year.

Very targeted and localized containments could be put in place in regional communities with low vaccination rates.

If the state were to experience an outbreak by February 5, the government will likely turn to restrictions on wearing masks and social gatherings instead of a lockdown.
